VIRGIL GRANT

One of LA’s first medical marijuana dispensary owners, Virgil was held for six years in federal prison for owning and operating a business that was legal in the state of California when the Federal sentence was served.

Since his release, the state laws have changed dramatically and Virgil has been working to have an equitable place at the table for minorities, lobbying city and state officials on behalf of the industry group which he founded. His ultimate goal is a legal marijuana license and to be seen as a legitimate businessman and return to in an industry that ultimately lead to his incarceration.

WILL ENGLISH- ROBINSON

Will English- Robinson has been recently released from prison and is living in a halfway house in Hollywood, CA. After refusing to cooperate in a Federal drug investigation, Will was convicted of Marijuana Conspiracy and sentenced to 18 years in Federal prison. He is eager to return to his family and to fill the void left by his incarceration. Will must navigate the challenges of reintegration back into a society that has changed dramatically, while also trying to reconnect with a family that has largely grown up without him.

Barbara Tillis

Barbara Tillis is the mother of Corvain Cooper, who is currently serving a life- sentence for Marijuana Conspiracy. Although Prop 64 has overturned her son’s State conviction, the Federal law remains unchanged and he continues to serve a life sentence. We will explore how Corvain’s life sentence has affected Barbara and her family. Along with legal and law enforcement experts, we will navigate the changing waters of criminal justice reform and illustrate how the changing laws might affect inmates with the harshest sentences like Corvain Cooper.
